The Shotgun House so named because you could shoot a shotgun from the front door to the back door. All the rooms are just lined up from the sitting rooms, bedrooms and the kitchen in the rear. These are found throughout New Orleans. When two are built side by side it is called a shotgun double. You would live on one side and mama and dad in the other. Many were built on 25-30 ft. lots. No cars, so no driveways were needed. Many have a narrow front porch covered by a roof apron and supported columns cloumns and brackets. Usually wood exterior on raised piers. Most date for the 1850s to the early 1900s.
